Similar thing to my earlier 'Which version is better' post. For each song (apart from CHM of course and Sin City, as there is only one studio version of it), say which version you prefer and why.
Sorry, this is because of my new-found Powerage addiction which came on when I finally bought it last week. I also think I am on an AC/DC binge, having bought No Bull, Powerage, FTATR and Bonfire all in the course of only 3 weeks.

The 9 track UK version. Simply cos it's the one I bought way back when & the one I'm used to. It still feels odd to hear the album start with Damnation when I play the later version. When the re-masters came out on cd I bought it simply in the hope that Gone Shootin would have the extended solo at the end instead of the fade out. (It's actually shorter....boo!) I was amazed to hear all the other stuff, I didn't know that the international release was different at all!!!

For me it is the ten track Euro version as like DC above it is the one I grew up listening to. The early releases have a harder edge to my ears than the latter ones. I hate all of the vocal changes and additional lead guitar work in particular the ending of DPB on the Int Version is fucking terrible. Two things I would take from the Int version are the non fade out to R'n'R D and the backing vocals on the third verse of WNTTM which I like. Also the ten track running order is perfect. DPB into Gone Shootin into Riff Raff to finish side one and Sin City to open up side two is perfect. R'n'R Damnation is a perfect opener for me as well. But the most damning criticism of the Int Version is that it does not have Cold Hearted Man which for me is a Top Ten Bon era song.

I really don't like any of the add ons guitar wise. Just clutter the record to my ears which are used to the sparser mix.

Barring WNTTM, I'm with DC/79 on this. Beginning the record with Gimme A Bullet = much better than a later poorly thought out single version of Damnation occupying the first slot in the album. The fact that this thumping rhythm guitar riff starts and then with a single Rudder's cymbal crash (yes you don't get this on the Int. version as well) Angus enters in with the riff of the song is just genius. And they'd repeat that in 1980!

Oh yeah, song order, better, too; ace move in putting Gone Shootin' (the fade out ain't THAT extended DC ;) ) between the DPB and RR was great, and even greater was putting UTMNIY as far away as possible from Kicked In The Teeth, cos quite frankly, they sound like filler when lumped together in the end like on the Int. version). The guitar fills here and there and the DPB coda, is like, whatever. I like em both ways.

ive always heard about this international version but never checked it out til now and this is what I listened to is this a shitty copy of it? Can someone point me into a good "definitive" copy of it? Ive got it on vinyl but I don't play my vinyl XD and WNTTM doesn't have a solo? I only heard GAB and WNTTM then turned it off lol

10 Track Euro for me for the same reasons as DC79. It's what I grew up with. I had over 25 years listening to that before I heard the CD and when I did I hated it. Unlike Jem, I wouldn't take 1 thing from the Int version. I'd keep it as I know and love it. I get why others prefer that version, especially if that's the version they had from day 1, but to me it's the 10 track all the way. Only version I bother with.

International. Euro version sounds like a demo to my ears.

I never hated the international version, I was more surprised by it.The track order is of course wrong, and it was one of the first things that struck me. You put the cd on, turn it up...and the songs don't flow in your mind. And of course the omission of Cold Hearted Man is a terrible mistake.

I'm the opposite to most here as the int 9 track version is the one I grew up with. It wasn't until I started nerding out on the interweb that I even knew about the 10 track different mix version. Only ever had CHM on a metal compilation called Headbanga! Paid silly money for a 10 track vinyl copy about ten years ago and was surprised at the differences. It still sounds weird to me.
As to which is better, on the int 9 track version I believe WNTTM is vastly improved, same for Bullet, and there aint nothing wrong with extending one of their greatest songs, Down Payment Blues.
Yet omitting Cold Hearted Man is a crime, and fading out Gone Shootin too early is also wrong. But comparing both on vinyl, the int 9 tracker sounds brighter and more lively, the 10 tracker sounds a tad muddier.

Only one way to solve it - the 2 Disc Special Edition Powerage.

2 Disc edition totally agreed upon.

I prefer bits from both releases...the album is amazing none the less.

The album has to start with Gimme a bullet, has to have Cold Hearted Man and you have to listen to Damnation separately!

its always got to be the one you grew up with. Never been keen on the one that was polished up for the Yank audience.

International version all the way. As I said before and agreeing with Spellbound, it sounds like a demo, kinda unfinished record.

I listened to a vinyl rip on my Walkman and it sounded so flat and lifeless compared to the CD rip I have. It might just be the equipment I was listening to it on though.

Euro/1st/original mix. Probably the closest thing they ever did to a live album in the studio. Specifically the 9 track version beginning with GAB.

I suspect the international version was the result of record company pressure to deliver something a little less rough around the edges.

Hopefully the original version will see a well mastered digital release one day.

^ Pretty much that, but if I was forced to pick, it would be the int version. It's missing CHM, but at the same time the original Euro version was missing RNR Damnation, so it evens out.

Up To My Neck In You is the only song I think is clearly better on the Euro version. Why they dumbed down the guitars so much on the later version I'll never know.

As I recall some of those Powerage tracks only have Malcolm's guitar going behind the solos. I may be wrong but I don't believe that's the case with LTBR.
