...used to enjoy these threads on another site that shall be nameless :)

This week I have been mainly listening to...

    My Morning Jacket
    AC/DC (natch)
    Spiritualized
    Gaslight Anthem
    The KIng Blues
  1.
OK, good thread...Mine is fairly boring (i.e. it's all Hard Rock, no surprises from me)

DC (obviously, I need a substantial daily fix)
Maiden (Never been a massive fan, but I've been listening to Brave New World and A Matter of Life and Death this week)
The Wildhearts (had their catalogue on repeat for weeks and months now)
The Angels (I ordered the 2008 Tour EP a few weeks ago - it finally arrived a few days ago. Even though it's just 4 tracks, I've been spinning it regularly)
UFO (Phenomonon, Force It and Lights Out. Enough said, really....)
  2.
Mainly listened to AC/DC Black Ice CD and Urza Minor.

    cool thread

    For me:

AC/DC - SUL, have been trying, without any luck, to give this album another serious spinning.. I really find it tough listening to this now; DDDDC; and BI.

Metallica - only because I went to the recent O2 gig, and have thrown in a few tracks on my playlist

  3.
    Black Ice- AC/DC..natch
    Death Magnetic- Metallica
    Roxy Music
    Kings of Leon
    Fleet Foxes

Kings of Leon - the real deal or a flash in the pan? What do you guys think?

  4.
Absolutely and totally not even on my radar...

Couple of catchy tunes - might take them seriously if they're still around in 36 years and selling out concerts in 4 minutes flat

  5.
    Damn right, bonlives....

Actually, I'll be in my 60's then, so nah, fuck 'em

  6.
Kings of Leon have been getting better with each album. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king and all that. I would say give em a chance. Forget all the NME type hysteria that surrounds them and get the new album. Quality songwriting.

Jem- tell me about My Morning Jacket and Gaslight Anthem...i've heard good things about both

I must confess, im hooked on their commercially successful tracks, so happy to see how they travel into the future
  7.
Some DC, Alice Cooper, some Priest (saw them in Madrid a couple of days ago, great gig), Turbonegro, Sinatra.

KOL, I really enjoyed their first album but each subsequent release I have liked less and less. Current album is obviously a massive breakthrough for them but they have lost a lot of their ramshackle charm. Check out 'Molly's Chamber' or 'Holy Roller Novocaine' from the first album for why I liked them

My Morning Jacket are a weird one. I only have one album (Evil Urges) the most recent one and it is very schizophrenic. I would check out 'Aluminium Park' and 'Librarian' and then 'Evil Urges' to get a taste of the record. Veers from classic 70's sounding rock to leftfield funkiness and acoustic mellowness.....Librarian is a beautiful example of the latter and one of my favourite songs of the last year....

Gaslight Anthem are a bit like a 'punky' rock 'n' roll band fronted by a guy who sounds like Springsteen. Their album is very much a first album but shows promise. Sounds good in the car :)

Jem - how do you decide what to listen to? and where do you go digging for new material?

To be honest, I've never heard of My Morning Jacket or Gaslight Anthem - have these bands had any commercial hits that I might be able to put a face to?

There's a radio show on Radio 1 in the UK done by Zane Lowe which plays a massive variety of music, most of it by new or upcoming bands and that is where I hear most of the new stuff I pick up. Every now and again someone will chuck me a cd of something and it will hit a spot.

MMJ are considered to be a decent sized band in the states, certainly their albums get in the charts. Gaslight Anthem are just starting out so no hits for them.
  8.
Audioslave- Revelations....Chris Cornell is just awesome
  9.
Jem- just ordered MMJ-Evil urges. if its shit...its your fault :-)
  10.
bonlives - you're pretty well-up on your Aussie bands (naturally enough!): what do you know of the Casanovas? I was pointed in their direction by someone who suggested I'd like their Aussie, hard-riffing style. Took me a little while to get into it, but their 2 full albums are fuckin' awesome in my opinion. They look sort of trendy, but they're definitely a cut above the pretenders like Jet etc, who arrived amidst big promotion campaigns but amounted to not much. Have you heard them, mate?

Hey ulster, yeah i have heard them and think theyre quite good. They pre-date Jet by about 4 years, but haven't had huge commercial success. They definitely appear trendy but attract a different audience to Jet. Theyre one of those groups that have great potential and just need a major hit to go big time.

Ill go away and put together a list of Aussie bands you may like.. you might even get along to a gig if you start saving your pennies and make it downunder for the Oz leg of DCs world tour!

It runs Mon-Thurs between 7-9pm. It plays literally every kind of music so sometimes you do find yourself going "WTF" but then every now and again something really good (and new) comes on. The presenter really knows and loves his music a real fan. He is due to interview the boys in the near future when they are in the UK. He is a massive fan. I've seen him dj a couple of times and he has always dropped an AC/DC tune.

This week and for the last two I have been listening to nothing but the boys :)
  11.
The Answer- Everyday Demons- has not left the stereo in my office for 2 weeks now
Chris Cornell- Scream-I love this album even tho I shouldn't
My Morning Jacket-Evil Urges- courtesy of jem's rec- pretty good...not too keen on the country type tracks tho
AC/DC- DDDDC- forgotten how good Squealer is...sleazy as hell
  12.
Bonlives and I (I think, anyway!) were talking about Squealer at the London or Birmingham show - great song, really underrated. I love when the background vocals kick in - "Squealah!"
