My favorite album. Which is your favorite track and why?

I love the whole record. I particularly loved the album artwork and design. Great singles and what a terrific tour
  2.
Ballbreaker is the Budweiser of albums
  3.
    Hard As A Rock.

Great riffs and a steamroller of a track.

    Epic anthem.
  4.
Best last song of any Brian album and potentially any ACDC album. Love riff to Furor and Brian’s singing and lyrics. burning Alive and hard as a rock are awesome but hard as a rock wasn’t a great first single to bring out meaning the album mostly sank pretty quickly. cover you in oil and hail Caesar must be their worst singles ever and love bomb, cover you in oil, and honey roll have to be near the bottom of the ACDC shit pile. boogie man, hail Caesar, pants down and whisky are just average songs which could have been a lot better with different lyrics, titles and bit more thought, variety to the riffs. Disappointing for me but the good songs make it less disappointing than stiff upper lip and rock or bust.
  5.
Not my favorite album from the boys, but yes the the title track is killer. I personally love the dry production. There is no room to hide in that mix, everyone pulls their weight.
  6.
After the long wait from razors edge I was so excited for this record , certainly not great but some gems on there but the best part of album was the tour
Hearing back in black done properly opening the show with Rudd back was incredible
Saw 3 shows on that tour , fantastic set list

For me at the time Ballbreaker was a big let down.
Sure Phil was back, the tour was great and the tilte track was killer.

But i don't like the dry production and (for me) most of the songs are weaker than Ac/Dc standard.
Always found that the cover suggested you something completly different than what you get.
And on top of that all with an '83 Angus in '95 :-)

My least favourite Brian album, but still good enough to listen to it once in a while...

    Anyway, happy "dry" anniversary

A very fitting title, seeing as BALLS is exactly what’s missing, the groove was back with Phil but the songs were forgettable. They were cartoonish,
a parody of themselves and the butt end of jokes by everybody else.
You’d never believe these guys recorded Back in Black.
  7.
Burnin' Alive and Ballbreaker. Both 10/10 songs for me.

I quite like the album. Not their best, but certainly not their worst.

Between the summers of 95 and 96 was the best year of my life. I've far too many memories of personal importance to be able to really be objective with the whole scenario. Looking back it seems like I was rather involved in much of what went on, although some memories I still can't truly believe myself, certainly not enough to share openly. It was just one long ride, from sitting in Part Rock's office in London listening to a strange looking CD of the album, which I later realised was a CDr, that was the only copy in the country, copied direct from the DAT that at that moment was on it's way to the pressing plant, right through to Mal saying such kind things about, and to, me in Bordeaux as I left the tour for an uncertain future.
For me it was simple: The BIB line-up re-united and rocking the world - can't be beaten.

    I love Ballbreaker.
Fave track is probably Burning Alive, I love AC/DC songs that take bit longer to get going.
The production gets roundly slated but Ballbreaker is a very intimate bluesy sounding album.
  10.
Although the album was largely poor to my ears, I agree with the above the tour redeemed it plenty

Burning Alive is a killer track. And it has some of the best Y&Y lyrics. I also love the title track and The Furor very much. Not a fan of HAAR though. Would have been great if they had used HAAR for the Last Action Hero soundtrack and kept Big Gun for BB.
  11.
The title track remains their greatest post BIB song IMHO. One of the toughest riffs they ever cooked up.

I think you might be underselling it a bit.

I guess I’m one of those guys that doesn’t really have a problem with the production. Musically I don’t see anything wrong with the album but this can be said about all of their later albums. HAAR, TF, BM, THR, BA, HC, WOTR, and the title track all all great musically with HAAR being on of my favorite post 1990 riffs

Amazing times indeed. I'm so glad that I got to spend my birthday with you in Houston (thanks for the cake) and I'll never forget you playing the cop off against the security guy, the Hard Rock Cafe incident in Miami and the drunken shenanigans in BB King's Club in Memphis. Thanks for the memories St Looy and AC/DC.

What I remember most was how much Brian moved around on stage on that tour. Almost more than Angus.
  16.
Best album ever, don't care who disagrees lol. I love every single song and I play the whole thing all the way through all the time. I think the guitar tones on this record are the best Malcolm and Angus ever had. To my ears, they are on fire on this album. Favorite song and favorite song period is Hard As A Rock. Best riff ever in that one. The production sounds great. It's a very bluesy and well, sleazy sounding record and I love that. The Furror is a beast of a song and sounds very ominous. Burning Alive is an incredible track as is Ball Breaker, the title track. Caught With Your Pants Down also rocks and I love the start/stop at the beginning of the song. I could go on but I just love this album.

We really do live in peak times

Since FOTS were mediocre hard rock albums. Ballbreaker or better said PHIL brought rock n roll back to the band. Great album!
  23.
Great interview with Brian from Sept. 1995:

    https://bravewords.c...

Interest quote from Brian about the retirement rumors at the time:
"If I got old and me voice didn't work and I refused to go on the road 'cause I didn't want to make a cunt out of myself in front of the fans, then they'll get another singer. AC/DC are too big. If Angus left, then that's a different story and the band is built around Angus' image."
  24.
I love the album, great dynamics and attitude. Very bare, organic and dry sound. A vintage type of sound. I listened to the album night and day for probably a year or so. Furor, Whisky On The Rocks, Honey Roll, Burning Alive are great tracks.

Goulash! Still can't work out how to do this yellow quote thing :-)
And those were just three things during only two weeks!
BB Kings - what a night? Walked in for free while everyone else was paying. Drank beer all evening to a caberet act of you abusing Oliver Stone. Then we refused to pay for the beer as we'd not ordered it (as they'd taken adventage of tourists as far as we were concerned). So we were asked to leave, which is what we were doing, and then we were banned from the club for life...
What wasn't to like? As I said, great year :-)

Being hidden in the back office of the greyhound station in Houston for our own safety and the Ascot Inn in Charlotte :-)
It still tickles me up when I think about meeting up in Greensboro for the first gig. We had no way of communicating and you asked a local "Where do the drug dealers and prostitutes hang out!" and when you were told The Coliseum Inn you said "That'll be where Goulash is staying!"... and it was.
I'd give anything to relive that tour.
  25.
Great production, great guitar tone, Rudd returns with glorious punch, Brian belts his tits off and only maybe 20% is filler. What is there to complain about? Okay, lyrics.

Well, the guitar tone on tour was too clean. Really ruined an otherwise great performance on No Bull.
  26.
Strange time for AC/DC. After becoming massive again on the back of Thunderstruck and the TRE tour I expected things to kick up a notch especially with Phil Rudd coming back on board. What actually happened was a bit anti-climactic in my opinion. The album which had apparently taken ages to record ended up sounding a bit flat to my ears. Waaaay too fucking dry. The songs as well weren't quite there, title track apart. The subsequent stories of the issues they had with Rick Rubin has probably got a bit to do with the final product. Some of the lyrics were also a bit near the knuckle, too filthy. You can get away with filth if there is a wink and a cheeky grin, but there was none of that here. Maybe Bon's way with the same lyrics might have given them a different feel. But the result was a bit too crude for me.
The album failed to take off like TRE did, but then again there wasn't a stand out single on Ballbreaker. Sales in comparison to its predecessor were weak.
They never fail to deliver on tour and their performances on the Ballbreaker were no different. They were brilliant as usual. I saw them twice on this tour, Newcastle and Birmingham. Birmingham was a sell out but Newcastle was barely half full. I think they had attendance issues on some of the other dates. I seem to remember Ulster talking about them condensing the Belfast and Dublin gig into just the one show. How can you go from the hottest ticket just 4-5 years early to not even getting anywhere near selling out the frontman's hometown gig? Apparently Brian was mortified. They've never been near Newcastle since. Ballbreaker the album - underwhelming.

I think the answer to the question about tickets sales can be summed up in one word... Grunge.
