    What's the Story
    Be Here Now
Standing on The Shoulder of Giants

(Well, (definitely) maybe not the last 1)

    Taylor Swift, anyone?
    Red (2012)
    1989 (2014)
    Reputation (2017)
    Lover (2019)

    Sorry. Be kind.

I think you are being generous with Standing on the Shoulder although Fucking in the Bushes is of course ace.

Four in a row is so much more difficult than three in row to come up with.In some cases I’ve allowed myself to include one album which, while still a great album, is not an absolute classic.
  2.
Cmon you lot, other choices from me you can argue. But the first four from the Ramones? Geez, where is the love

Check out their Live @ East Berlin video (1990), shot during their No More Color tour. Quite an impressive sound for a trio. With each consecutive release they became more... Coroner. My personal favourite's probably R.I.P. although their fifth album, which wasn't mentioned, is a... thing.

Think you're being generous calling Goo a classic - the rest, yes, of course. Daydream was the apex but Dirty was a mighty return to form.

Seems like all bands are getting mentioned in this now....
Didnt realise there was so many classic records out there. Hmmm

I guess it's pretty subjective once you get past the indisputable classics (AC/DC, Stones, Beatles) - you mentioned the Scorpions in your original post and while I like them in small doses I wouldn't personally consider any of their albums "classic" except maybe Lovedrive (Tokyo Tapes doesn't count) but I totally get why others do. Great thread btw.

I always found Dirty Boots really underwhelming and sluggish as an opener - certainly coming after the killer opening tracks of Sister and Daydream. But Titanium Expose is immense, Disappearer, too. Time for a revisit.

I guess that when I see people put bands that ive hardly even heard of I just wonder!
Id suggest that most classic albums sell well. Surely all classic albums out there deserved to be heard.
Maybe the post should have been about personal Favourites that you think should have been a classic.
Though there are people out there that would go off a band if they done a classic!

I guess it's interesting to speculate what defines a classic. I think popularity plays a part but not sure it's essential - The Velvet Underground & Nico rightly appears in many Top Ten Greatest Albums lists but it's probably sold less than the worst-ever selling Coldplay album!! I guess sales plus acclaim plus being original/innovative in some way all help a classic make - Sgt Pepper & Dark Side of the Moon hit all those markers for example.

I never equate sales with quality.

    My choices would be:

Genesis from Rotting Christ (Greek Black Metal).
Mental Vortex from Coroner (Progressive Thrash Metal from Switzerland).

Sgt Pepper and DSOTM are rightly classics because they both work as albums and the music is great.
I dont think originality comes into it in my opinion. Originality is only good if it works and the music is actually good. As for The Velvet Underground they dont float my boat but I do understand about their place in the history of music
  17.
Yeah but Sgt Peppers and DSOTM don’t work for everybody else.

One persons idea of a classic isn’t the same as the next persons clearly.

This thread is asking what people consider classics not what other people do I believe ?

Give me any Velvet Underground album over the other two mentioned any day of the week. DSOTM wouldn’t even be in my top 5 Floyd albums
  18.
Nice to see Kraftwerk getting a mention. Their albums are more "classic" than most records mentioned here. Although they should be enjoyed in German - or not at all.

Bad Religion had a run of 7 albums that for me (an old punk) are superb.....

    Suffer
    No Control
    Against The Grain
    Generator
    Recipe For Hate
    Stranger Than Fiction
    The Gray Race

Each and every one of those albums is brilliant. Loud as fuck, fast punk rock with hugely intelligent lyrics and great musicianship. If you don't know about Bad Religion, check out any of these LPs.

Yes you're right , the voice is totally shot.
"These days" was a lot different than the previous 3 albums , but was a grower to me. After that it all went down ...
Now Richie Sambora isn't in the Band anymore and it feels like every song from the last 15 years sounds the same.
Sad what happen with Bon Jovi .
    But in their prime ('86 - '96) i liked them a lot...
