The bruce dickinson thread got me thinking......
How many bands have had four albums in a row that are all classics or thereabouts
Obviously AC/DC. LTBR through to BIB
Iron maidens first four for me also
Scorpions - lovedrive through to love at first sting
And Led Zeps first four must be there
    Is there any obvious others?

  2.
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin, Stained Class, Killing Machine
  3.
    Metallica (5)

Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, Metallica aka The Black Album

    (6) if you coun't the original Garage Days EP

Black Sabbath also had an impressive run. I'll let Alex Lebanon do that list. :)

AC/DC had a classic run of (7) HV through FTATR. (8) if you count If You Want Blood

As far as Iron Maiden is concerned, they had an ace run from their 1st album throught their double live one. The classic run ended with Somewhere in Time (even though there are some great tracks on it).

    So (6) for Maiden.

Cant agree with priest Metallica or Motorhead. But each to their own. I love Metallica and have done since 85 but justice has a couple of fillers. As for priest they have a couple of good tracks. Motorhead are solid but not all quite classics in my opinion.
I should have stated I was only talking about studio albums

Not a big Led Zep fan, but how can you argue with:

    Led Zeppelin I
    Led Zeppelin II
    Led Zeppelin III
    Led Zeppelin IV
    Houses of the Holy
    Physical Graffiti

    Edit: for spelling mistakes

I love the first four albums. Houses of the holy was pretty good as well. Though i tend to struggle with physical graffiti

Back in the day Saxon was up their as one of my fav bands but even as A big Saxon fan of the time I realised there were fillers on every album. Now if you could make an album out of them four albums you mentioned I believe it would be an all time classic

Sadly the following lyrics came from this album....

    Immigrants and faggots
They make no sense to me
    They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
    Like start some mini-Iran
    Or spread some fucking disease

    It's all Greek to me

Black Sabbath was mentioned above. They arguably did 6 in a row.

After two less than stellar releases, they had two great ones back to back with Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. That's 8 great albums out of 10. Pretty good batting average.

It would have been 9 out 11 if Born Again had competent production.
  26.
    Slayer:

    Hell Awaits
    Reign in Blood
    South of Heaven
    Seasons in the Abyss

    Death:

    Human
    Individual Thought Patterns
    Symbolic
    The Sound of Perseverance

    Thin Lizzy

    Fighting
    Jailbreak
    Johnny the Fox
    Bad Reputation
    Black Rose

6 if you count Live and Dangerous, and Vagabonds and Nightlife have just a few tracks that keep them from being on the same level as the above 6. Chinatown unfortunately separates Renegade and Thunder and Lightning from the rest of the pack. Great record, but side B is largely crap.

I completely forgot that British Steel comes after these. I thought it was separated by Unleashed in the East, but of course live albums don't count. So British Steel would make it 5 in a row for Judas Priest, in my opinion.

I guess it depends if your split on Dave or Sam...

For me VH I through 1984 is a classic run put on a pedestal. So I think you can stretch out 6 here, if you get over the small bump of DD (which I actually like).

    He's kidding, right?

There was a bloke called David Bowie who released some decent albums in the 70s but not in the same league as Van Halen, Saxon or Slayer obviously... :)
