AC/DC leader singer Brian Johnson turns 64 today.

Born 5 October 1947 in Dunstan, Gateshead, England, Johnson has been the frontman for AC/DC for over 30 years following Bon Scott’s untimely death. He scored the dream job in March 1980 with the official announcement made on 1 April.

Prior to joining AC/DC, Johnson fronted English band Geordie, scoring a UK Top 10 hit with “All Because of You” in 1973. Geordie split in 1978, but reformed briefly in early 1980 – those plans were of course shelved following the call up from AC/DC.

His debut album with AC/DC, Back In Black, was released on 25 July 1980 and is the second-highest selling album of all time (and the highest-selling album of any band), shifting an estimated 50 million units.

From all AC/DC fans the world over, Happy Birthday Beano – we salute you! Wishing you many more birthdays to come.
