AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is busy putting the finishing touches on his new steak and seafood restaurant at the Bridge Marina in Tauranga, New Zealand, ahead of the grand opening later this month. Rudd has invited friends from the rock world to the launch event including fellow AC/DC band members Brian Johnson, Angus and Malcolm Young and Cliff Williams.

Phil's Place promises a unique dining experience

Rudd took over ‘The Bridge Bistro and Bar’ in July and has been busy since refurbishing the venue. ‘Phil’s Place’ – as the new restaurant will be known – is on the edge of the Bridge Marina and enjoys views to Mount Maunganui.

Rudd himself has personally overseen the renovation work and promises the venue will offer a truly unique dining experience.

“We have completely re-kitted the inside,” he told New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty Times. “I want it to be more than a restaurant – a whole dining experience. I have focused on the visuals, the sound, the smell and of course the taste. Most of all, ‘the feel’. It will be a place that will blow your mind.”

Rudd has lived in Tauranga for the past 28 years and is an active member of the local community.

“I do want to give back to the community, and have plans which I think will really give a boost to the local economy. The restaurant is just the first step,” Rudd said.

And he isn’t ruling out more restaurants and other business plans for the area.

“If it goes off I will do whatever it takes. I’m ready. Plan B, well that’s going to blow your mind even more.”
