This has been launched in response to the high number of fake autographs in circulation.

Throwing this open for discussion. Please keep all comments on topic and refrain from identifying any particular seller(s) by name or eBay ident. We know there are scumbags out there, and we know who they are, but I don't need the legal grief of a claim for libel. So, anything I or the mods deem to be libellous, has to be removed. Sorry, but that's the reality of the litigious age in which we live. And for those who don't have a friggin clue what I'm saying, just don't say anything...

I'm deeply passionate about alerting people to the huge amount of fake signed shit out there. I care nothing for the sellers who knowingly peddle this crap - I hope you all rot in hell. A bit thumbs up to Bill has to go out for kicking this off - one of the few people who can spot a fake with his eyes closed. And a big thanks to Martin, who helped me pull this feature together.
  1.
great feature - wouldn't buy anything already autographed myself, as for me, I prefer to get stuff autographed myself. But I think it's a great resource for fans who are interested in buying this stuff.....

100% real GZ - but only good for verification of autographs this current tour. The band's signatures have changed heaps over the years, much the same as everyoon'e does.

Bulk update to the AC/DC Autographs page completed - some really nice items in that lot, and as always, some real trash too - you've been warned!

If anyone has some autographs they'd like checked, post them here!

Or, if you're a little unsure and want to save yourself the embarassment of possibly owning fakes, "whisper" the pictures using the "whisper your comments to" field above.

LOL not the best I've seen GZ, and I've seen and own some beauties, but your signed LP is 100% legit so they are better than 99.99999999999% of the autographs I've seen on eBay. Makes me sick when I see someone hand over $3000 for a guitar worth $300 which has been scribbled on by someone. Disgusting!

and of course, the person doing the scribbling sure as hell ain't Angus, Mark, Brian, Cliff or Phil

Is anyone interested in making $46,000 without doing any real work for it?

    Check out item:  http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AC-DC-x-5-BAND-Hand-Signed-Framed-Guitar-Aust-PROOF-/300420029107?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_MusicMemorabilia&hash=item45f26ddab3

For the small outlay of $4,600 you can own a completely worthless piece of history - BUT, the seller is offering 10 times your money back when you get it authenticated and signed off as being fake - which it clearly is.

Anyone interested in starting a slush fund and buying this?

Check out the AC/DC autographs page too - some real great buys in there...

  2.
I would like $46,000 but I'm not paying $4,600 to get it. But just for kicks and giggles someone should do it.

Booth - it's not a bad return though is it? And assuming the seller sticks to his word, it's guaranteed as that's the biggest pile of steaming shit guitar I've ever seen

The pictures included as "proof" aren't even of the guitar being sold...

  3.
there are always tons of fakes on ebay - does anyone ever really buy these, how do these guys make money?

Ma-Ma-Money Made, all time great is on parade.

Very useful service. To me signed stuff has no value to me personally if it's not me who got it signed.. i mean that it's some kind of a prrof that you have met the guy(s)

anyway, how do you even see that it's a fake? pretty impressive

Looking at the user store, looking at the product itself and also looking at the signature. Looking at the first 2 things can easily help you figure if its a scam or not.

Saik0 - it takes time to learn how each band member signs and how their signatures have changed over time. Like your own signature it's changed over the years and the band members are no different.

I could tell you some of the dead giveaways to look for, but I'm concerned that will only help the sellers of this shit to improve their fakes.

I laughed my ass off when I saw someone trying to sell a Bon Scott Autographed Highway To Hell CD.

Its almost as dumb as that 'Bon Scott Singin Back In Black Demo!' videos up on youtube.

I'd say 99.9% of stuff on ebay is fake, but the odd diamond does come up.

If you add some ebay listings you're looking at in the Autographs section (see the top menu), I'll take a look and provide an opinion.

There's a couple of sites online that do sell authentic stuff... autographpros.com is one such site. However, I did see a picture on ebay that featured the exact same autographs that were featured on a guitar being sold by autographpros. I contacted them about it and they completely ignored me.

So, without a response on what the story might be, I was left thinking that they (the picture seller, autographpros, or both (if they're one and the same company)) *could perhaps* be trading it autopen autographs - ie using a machine to draw autographs onto items using authentic examples as the stencil.

This is a bit of a worry as I'd never seen this before.

Can you remember the ebay item number of the Back In Black LP you were looking at? or have you got pictures of the item?

I've just had a scan through ebay and there's a handful of legitimate signatures - the vast majority are fakes.

I'll put together a summary and get back to you

Back in Black would be harder to come by.

There's quite a few Black Ice signed LPs in circulation given the recent tour, so that's your best bet.

You are right. And I guess Black Ice will also be cheaper than Back in Black. I am just trying to see a copy signed by the full band on ebay. It seems that Phil Rudd avoids signing stuff.

The Back in Black cover I looked at but was glued when framed:

Yeah, you're more likely to get a left hook from him than a signature. I guess we love him for that though ;D.

    Or

He may have signed a shitload of crap and kept it in his house for when he dies. When he kicks the bucket BAM his kids hit that shit up on eBay. Quite a smart inheritance.

The Black in Black signed cover seller states that the singnatures have been authenticated by two forensic handwriting examiners! All this "authentication" industry (PSA/DNA, JSA, etc.) seems to be bullshit??

The seller can say what he/she likes but it's still fake mate. If that LP caught fire I wouldn't even waste my time urinating on it to put the flames out. I recently was asked about a Dirty Deeds LP cover that was signed by all the band including Bon. Was "authenticated" by a forensic specialist... sounded fucking great, until I pointed out it was a 1981 US pressing. Forensic specialist my arse! Regarding PSA/DNA - those guys are pretty good to be honest, but I have seen items that have passed through their hands that are bogus. But, the vast majority of the stuff they pass is the real deal.

The same authenticator of the Back in Black LP, and the Dirty Deeds LP I spoke about above.
