And why is it Sweet Candy?

This album is very weird - it's incredibly consistent, and I like pretty much every track, but it's downright one of my least favorites. It just doesn't have much lasting essence, and I have no urge to ever go back and listen to its songs.

If I had to pick a favorite, though, it'd either be BBF, DOW, or the title track.

Title track is the best, Play Ball close behind.

Still love this record, what a surprising breath of fresh air by a band of that age.. I've got used to the short arrangements so it's only the terrible lyrics on many songs that leave a feeling of "what if?"

I very rarely play whole albums, I just have stuff on random play, but if anything from RoB comes on aside from RnR Thunder, I don't skip them. Whereas on BI or SUL there are several I'd skip (BI has the mitigating factor of many songs though).

    The title track
  7.
BAPTISM BY FIRE! HANDS DOWN! One of the band's best songs since Thunderstruck. it's pure madness.
  8.
Play Ball. I think the title track is the weakest song. Boring riff that just keeps on going.....

I listened to ROB the other week, and I was kinda getting bummed out from it. It didn't appeal to me as much as it did when it came out. I enjoy the tracks, but I don't love them either. If I were to pick the best track, it would prob be Sweet Candy. I love the chorus, the riff and the intro with Angus holding that vibrato note. Cheesy, but catchy. I much prefer BI to ROB

Good to see some Sweet Candy love, been a favorite of mine since day one. The intro is so good love the way the band smacks in.

As far as best track off the album, have to be the Title track for me, a much needed tune after Black Ice (song) fizzled out. This one stands nicely with Ballbreaker and SUL as a title track for the later era imo.

    Brian sounding incredible also.

How has nobody said Hard Times?!?! Such a great chorus.

Honorable mention to Emission Control for the funky riff.

Close tie between Play Ball and Dogs of War.
PB is the only song with distinct interplay between the 2 guitars and has a nice flow. DoW has a dark vibe that reminds me a bit of Evil Walks. Cool bridge and decent lyrics (probably some words by B'oB).

PS: Sweet Candy is one of the worst phoned in turds they've ever made.

Fantastic tune. It's got that FOTS type of punch in it. Love it. TOP10 tune ever in the cataloque for me - eat my shorts!

HARD TIMES ! Hudge cool boogie-funky stuff. A great work on thE backing vocals, a short guitar solo melt with the chorus....
It's way too short, but I love that AC/DC.

    Really like these four tracks:
    1. Play Ball
    2. Hard Times
    3. Baptism by fire
    4. Emission Control

These two I don't like at all
    1. Dogs of War
    2. Rock'n'roll thunder

I do agree that album is overally good but somehow "most of the tracks don't have that lasting essence" as MyCubiclePenguin said.

It's fast food. Tastes nice very quickly but only for a short time. The day after you will not remember the thing.

Funny that this is a topic because in the past month I've been listening to RoB the most I've had since it came out. I just never really got into the album. For me the best song is Rock or Bust.

I'm fucking struggling with this tbh.

The more time passes, the further down my list of 'DC albums it slips.

Rock The Blues Away and BBF are my favourites.
I liked PB when it came out but now it would be near the bottom.

Rock The Blues Away would be magic with some proper lyrics. Musically, it's just bang-on, I love it. But what a missed opportunity. Those lyrics - not just the words but the basic lack of syllables? That's bad work from the producer not pulling them up on that. And the couple of off-key vocals in the 1st verse, that's just terrible to allow those through. Pitch change them if anything, don't just leave it like that FFS.
  19.
Rock The Blues Away is a good call. It's solid songwriting. I don't mind the lyrics.

It's the verse sections that bug me - though not enough to totally spoil it (and the aforementioned off-pitch bits) but also (to a much lesser degree) the repetition thing going on with the lyrics in the other sections (a bit like the endless 'blow your mind' on Smash n Grab). But the arrangement, and the way the pre-chorus builds up with those two sections, those syncopated, chiming guitars then a sing-along chorus, it's just so great, I don't get this "grandpa rock" thing at all, it's just an excellent chorus.

And my favourite moments...underneath a great solo from Angus which evokes the old days a little, the way Stevie holds back, leaving space then chiming in at just the right moments (and I think a few hybrid chords which totally make it for me)....a few moments that show how he has that feel and understanding that Mal had....just great rhythm guitar.

RTBA is a great track, but it literally has an identical verse to Anything Goes. I can't necessarily complain, though, cause Anything Goes is shit yet they found a way to salvage the good melody from it.

LoL, Penguin, it does not! There's a melody in the verse that's the same, but that's it.

Actually I really like Anything Goes as well....but again, OMG what a missed opportunity. DIRE lyrics!

I realized my mistake and edited it from "chorus" to "melody" the actual millisecond you posted that

It might not be too important of a factor, but it stood out the me when I first heard Anything Goes

Yep for sure lots of people said that at the time, so it's fair comment. Seemed weird being on consecutive records.. But for me personally, it didn't take too many spins before I completely stopped hearing that.

    What is emission control about?
  23.
Posted By: Nachos73What is emission control about?

    Triple meaning:

    - Emission control as in do good for the planet, don't do so much emissions
    - Emission control as in don't liquid explosions everywhere and into everyone willing to take on in
    - Emission control as in passing gas in public spaces or backstage

Live by these and at the end some emission control is truly good for the soul.

    Viagra.

Makes no sense. A condom that I would have been ok with.

But if the song would have been about viagra the song would have been called Emisson Enabler.
