It might be just me but KISS up to 'Love Gun' and AC/DC before BiB sound somewhat similar especially on the Frehley compositions. I mean before KISS went off the deep end.

Like early kiss esp dressed to kill, I don't see the DC connection though, apart from the repetetive riffs, but that goes for most bands. I always thought DC's guitar sound had more Balls to it. Kiss always sounded a bit more restrained on their albums, Eddie Kramer seemed to just take a bit of edge off the guitars apart from Ace's solo's of course. The Alive albums sound great though and I do like the in the red recording of Hotter Than Hell, reminds me a bit like Raw Power by iggy. Love the early stuff but not so much mid 80s/90s Kiss.

AC/DC is the real deal, there are genuinely some serious geniuses minds and real talents behind it whereas Kiss IMO is just some cheesy circus kinda band with mediocre musicians.

All the whinging about the money grab (which sucks big time) and the lip synch(which should be punishable by torture if not admitted beforehand) can't unmake the great music that they made for over 4 decades. Not always my style but they have tons of kick ass songs.

Amen. In my 80ties TOP10, both, from any bands.

They really make ACDC look like a joke band in comparison, as if ACDC just didn’t take the whole rock n roll thing seriously enough. KISS’s use of real rock n roll (not that “Back in Black” shit) and the sheer grit they oozed on stage with their totally not faggy looking makeup and costumes make them the superior group in my book. I really couldn’t understand why someone would like ACDC more, as KISS’s showmanship, songwriting, and respectability really put ACDC to shame.

    That was painful to write.

I must admit I'm surprised our buddy Jem hasn't chimed in with his two cents on this. I'm sure he'd no doubt have something witty and constructive to add to this discussion. :)

PS: Creatures of the Night is a bitchin record. Eric Carr was an amazing drummer.

I enjoy most of those early Kiss records. They were a solid band if you put the bullshit aside. That being said, the guitar sounds were really weak and Ace Frehley fucking blows as a guitar player.

But my favorite KISS member was Ace and he is not a part of this last tour so I think I`ll pass.

Kiss are pretty good in my opinion. Don't understand the hate they get on this site. They have some good rock songs.

Didn't know they were lip syncing though. That's disappointing.
  16.
Just my opinion, but I think AC/DC are miles better, no matter what era. Ive never understood why KISS dressed up like that just to go on and make (mostly) soft pop songs. Nowhere near the power AC/DC has. Although I will admit KISS has a few good songs, most of them with Gene on vocals.

Early KISS made good party R&R. Only their image became more important than the music. AC/DC also plays good time party R&R but with a more genuine sound and image.
Alive II is a very good "live" record.
  17.
I always thought they were just a de-clawed Stooges/New York Dolls for the under-14s/safe middle America etc.
After getting into a heated discussion with my old mucker Badlands66 about them a year or so ago I thought it only fair that I go on Spotify and listen to EVERY ONE OF THEIR FUCKING ALBUMS IN ORDER.

    And you know what?

They wrote some good stuff in the 70s. Dressed to Kill, Destroyer, Rock N Roll Over, Love Gun, S/T are good records - not in the same league as Aerosmith and not to be mentioned in the same breath as AC/DC but they wrote some decent tunes and the Alive versions certainly have a bit more bite - the studio albums do sound quite frail and poppy, even when the core song is good.

To be fair, for most of those who were kids in the seventies I doubt there was a cooler band than KISS. It's when you get a bit older you realise that their image wasn't all that cool, and that there are way better music out there. But back in the days, from a kid perspective, they were monsters compared to everything else. Which was all that mattered.
  18.
Kiss clearly have some of the influences AC/DC had when they started out = Free and Humble Pie.
  19.
I like KISS but AC/DC in my opinion are miles better and always have been. I'm not sure I see the similarity in their music. Ok yes they both play Rock n Roll but AC/DC's sound has always been a harder form of Rock or Hard Blues Rock at times (well at least from 1975 onwards). Where KISS' music to me is far more pop rock and doesn't have the Hard Rock or sometimes Hard Blues Rock sound that AC/DC is famous for, just my thoughts on it.
  20.
    AC/DC V Kiss.....a 'band' that lip sync.
    No contest.
  21.
Shall we compare Rudd vs Criss as a starter? Rudd is a mega solid great drummer. Criss never was. Yeah he sang on a couple of tunes. But the guy couldn´t hold the beat.

But Ace i always held high. Great guitarist. KISS have some classics yes, mostly from the 70s. Someone said they could be a good co headline. Doupt that. AC/DC don´t need that. Kiss hardly ever played stadiums in Europe. Maybe in Sweden and maybe in some other country. Not quite in the AC/DC league there.
  23.
And we're arguing as to whether Angus should get rid of the schoolboy suit

The makeup tells you all you need to know about KISS.

    Indeed ;)

Let's not forget that it was Kiss (Gene) that saw potential in AC/DC and offered them a supporting slot in the '70's, not the other way around, 'DC owes them some gratitude for that surely.

As they were both teetotallers Gene took Angus for a milkshake @ Mels on Sunset down the street from the Whiskey. I used to take my son there after school and wonder which table they sat at.

I hope you're fucking impressed that i set aside my reservations for what amounted to a 24 hour Kiss listening party :)

I found their 80s stuff unlistenable but there's one OK early 90s record - Revenge?? I should've taken notes...

It was then, yes, Mel's for at least the last ten years, maybe longer. They kept the roof and some of the interior features.

    A band cant be sexless, if they have recorded such classics as;

    - Let's put the X back in SEX
    - UH! All night!
    - Read My Body

And to the above. Porn can top a real vagina and Yuko can top a Lotus, theyre more reliable. Same with KISS always tours and communicates; never changed lead singer mid-tour.

Hahaha, that was my point...music should be judged on it's own merits, not how big assholes the members of the band are, (and yeah, Gene is an asshole of epic proportions)

Honestly worst band ever imo. Really a disgrace to the rock community and enshrine everything that is wrong with the music industry.
A tour with backing track vocals? Is that not enough to prove that all those paying are getting utterly ripped off by a greedy corporate machine spearheaded by self-aware members of the band who know EXACTLY how to get the most money out of ignorant fans.

Case in point, they offered fans like the chance to meet Gene Simmons for 2,000 dollars or something.
    Get a fucking grip.

    https://www.inquisit...

Edit - AC/DC tried to be everything that they aren't. Simple rock and roll without the money grabbing theatrics. Gene Simmons and co are a joke. Genuinely how can people agree with their existence as a band anymore. They also had the audacity to say Rock is dead - THEN go and tour without real vocals. They are the ones killing Rock.
Do they have any actually outstanding albums. Like I mean every good band has a string (or at least one) of amazing albums. Kiss genuinely have none. How can you listen to whatever fans feel like are there stand-out albums without thinking about how much of a joke the band is.

I'm sorry, but they make me so angry. They are the reason so many people are fed up of rock.
